Corporate income tax to be paid for the year 2022
Companies in Denmark must pay corporate income tax twice a year, in equal amounts. If a company expects to make a profit, they should consider paying more tax on account. On the other hand, if they expect lower income, they may want to reduce the tax payment.
Would it be beneficial to choose to pay additional residual tax voluntarily?
Whether it is a good idea to make a voluntary tax payment before or after November 21, 2022 depends on the company's loan interest rate or deposit rate compared to the interest rate charged on any remaining tax amount. If the company has extra cash or a loan interest rate that is lower than 5.6%, it's usually a good idea to pay voluntarily along with the ordinary tax payment. Currently, most Danish banks have negative interest rates on deposits, so it might be a good idea to calculate the expected residual tax for the 2022 income year and pay as much as possible before the deadline.
The option to make a voluntary payment for the third installment
If the company decides to make the voluntary tax payment now, it can choose to pay at a later date - but provided it does so no later than February 1, 2023. This deadline is set in case the company ends up with a higher profit than previously anticipated. However, if the payment is made after the deadline, the company will have to pay an additional fee of 0.8% as interest.
Decrease in regular advance tax payments
If a company anticipates a loss for the tax year 2022 and is required to make a regular tax payment on November 20th, 2022, they can reduce the payment amount using E-Tax (TastSelv Erhverv at www.skat.dk). The payment reduction must be completed before November 21st, 2022.
