Once a Danish limited liability company has its CVR number, the system automatically creates an electronic correspondence mailbox (Digital Post) for it. Through Digital Post, public institutions send various types of messages to companies, so it is important to regularly check and read the correspondence that arrives. However, it should be noted that in some cases public institutions still send traditional mail instead of electronic mail. Under Danish law, it does not matter in which form the correspondence is received – both traditional and electronic correspondence have the same legal effect.
If you are an authorised representative of a company, you have the option to log in to the Digital Post mailbox using your private MitID on both the Virk platform and the Digital Post app. However, if you are not able to use your private MitID for limited company purposes, you will need to use your MitID Erhverv to access your Digital Post mailbox on the Virk platform. In order to be able to log in and read electronic correspondence relating to the company, your MitID Erhverv account must have the appropriate permissions. These can be obtained via the Digital Post Permissions Portal.
On private platforms such as e-Box and mit.dk, Danish companies have the possibility not only to receive correspondence from authorities, but also to exchange correspondence with other companies. In the free version, a company can only receive correspondence without being able to send it. If, on the other hand, it wishes to access sending correspondence, it is necessary to purchase the paid version.
